Gold Standards Summit 2009 | January 12-14, 2009 | Disney's Coronado Springs Resort | Orlando, Florida
About the Summit
Delgates from audiology doctoral programs, accreditation and certification bodies, educational agencies, student organizations, and other key stakeholders joined together for a critical analysis of clinical education in audiology.
The Issues:
  • Status of the current clinical model – what’s working vs. what is not
  • Effectiveness in clinical education – assessing competencies, not just hours
  • Efficiency in clinical education – a comparison with other professions
  • Clinical education across unique programs – balancing consistency with flexibility
  • Preceptorship – alternative models for maximizing clinical learning
Multiple Formats for Learning and Discussion:
  • Presentations and panel discussions
  • Participation in breakout sessions
  • “Open-mic” questions and commenting
The Expected Outcomes:
The goal of the Summit was to define alternative processes that will transform the effectiveness, efficiency, and consistency of clinical education in audiology. Participants considered:
  • The changes that must be made
  • The impact of those changes
  • How those changes will be accomplished
  • Who will be responsible for implementation
